THIS WEEK'S SELECTIONS PROVIDED BY ANDREW BOHAN
"Baby Play It Straight"/ |
"St. Louis Blues"/ |
Above: Clipping from The Billboard Encyclopedia Of Music 1946-1947. The Diamond Record Corporation was owned by Irving R. Gwirtz. He was also involved with the Musicraft, Paragon, Progressive, Audio, and Lariet labels in the 1940's and early 1950's.Per Pete Grendysa: "The Brooks Brothers were Orville Brooks and, as he put it, 'a bunch of hummers.' At the time I talked to him, he could not recall the names of the rest of the group members. Orville had been in the Jubalaires and then switched to the Golden Gate Quartet in Spring, 1948. He left the Gates in 1954 to join Gene Mumford (also an ex-Gate) in the Larks."
Above: Label images for Diamond 2005 and 2006. You can decide if these are just "hummers" singing with Orville. In addition to these two releases on Diamond, The Brooks Brothers had at least three releases on Decca (1947-48).Listen to this week's selections by The Brooks Brothers:
