"Am I Wasting My Time On You?"/"I'm Just A Dreamer"
by Buddy Hawkins And The Songmasters
on Commodore 7556
released 1948
Above: Photo of Alton "Buddy" Hawkins circa 1951. After his Songmasters group (1948), Hawkins was with The Key Notes (1950) and then joined Al Russell's Do-Ray-Me Trio in 1951. The Songmasters and Key Notes may have been the same group or may have had some of the same members. Interestingly, Do-Ray-Me recorded for the Commodore label in 1947-48, about the same time as (or just before) The Songmasters.Anyone with information about the other members in The Songmasters (or The Key Notes), please send me an e-mail.
Above: Label image for Commodore 7556, release date 1948. The only other known release by this group is Commodore 7555. Commodore was a subsidiary of Decca Records. The flip side of this record, "I'm Just A Dreamer", was written by Alton Hawkins-Everett Barksdale. Wonder if Barksdale was a member of The Songmasters? There was an Everett Barksdale who was guitarist with The Jubalaires... is this him? Compare his Jubalaires photo (bottom center) with The Key Notes photo (bottom right)... is it the same person?
