Above: Photo of The Cues, who were the backup group for many of the Atlantic Records single artists. There were several different aggregations, this one is (L-R) Ollie Jones, Jimmy Breedlove, Abel De Costa, Robie Kirk, and Edward Barnes. Kirk was also known as Winfield Scott, composer of "Tweedle Dee" and other hit songs. The Playboys were actually Charlie White backed by the first recorded version of The Cues. Cat was a subsidiary label of Atlantic.

Trade Magazine Clipping: August 1954—The Playboys have been signed by Cat Records. Their first release features a new Lincoln Chase tune, "Rock, Moan And Cry"....

Trade Magazine Clipping: March 1955—Charlie White, former lead singer of the Clovers, has formed his own group, the Playboys, and is now recording for Cat, Atlantic Records' subsidiary label. The first [sic] release by the group is due out this week....
