From Charlie & Pam Horner: While we never met nor interviewed Doris Browne, the following information was gained by talking to other Philadelphia singers. Doris Browne was from Philadelphia. Around 1949-1950, she performed on the Parisian Tailor Kiddie Hour, a popular amateur hour radio program for African American children, broadcast weekly on WPEN-AM (Philadelphia). Many Philadelphia singers got their start on this show, including the Buccaneers. While singing on the Parisian Tailor Kiddie Hour, she was often backed by a Philadelphia vocal group called the Flamingos. I (Charlie) asked Sonny Smith of the Buccaneers if it was this Flamingos group who backed her vocally on the record. He said, “No. Members of the Doc Bagby Trio supplied the vocal background.”

Above: Label image for Gotham G-296 A. Doc Bagby's organ playing works well with these two sides. This was the second of four releases by Doris Browne on Gotham (1953-54). Seven of the eight sides have vocal group backing.
