Above: Letter from Joe Davis dated October 15, 1953 regarding the new release on his Jay-Dee label of a two-sided Christmas record. Davis had been producing records for a long time. He launched his first label, Beacon, in 1942 (which soon expanded to add the Joe Davis, Davis, and Gennett labels). Of special note were the first two records by Savannah Churchill (1942) and many by The 5 Red Caps (1943-46). His Jay-Dee label's first release was by The Crickets in July 1953.
