(JULY 1998 SPOOFS OF THE RECORD OF THE WEEK)

The first "Record of the Week (ROW)" was done in May 1997. The idea was to select a vocal group and one of their records each week. The ROW would include the group's picture and some information about them and the record. There would also be a label scan and audio of the record.

In 1998, a friend in the Netherlands, named "Shady", had a clever idea to spoof the current (at that time) Record of the Week. The real vocal group featured that particular week was The Solitaires and their record "Blue Valentine". First came a web page from Shady for the direct spoof featuring Tony & The Due Whoppers. Notice the inclusion of surface noise on the acetate 78-rpm record. Soon after, came a second web page continuing the spoof theme.

Links to both of those web pages are in the list below. There are also links to the original Solitaires ROW and the very first ROW. The only difference between the original web pages and those shown here is that RealAudio has been replaced with Windows Media Player.

So here is a nostalgic look back to 1998.
