Above: (Left) Review, from The Billboard dated 2/14/53, of The Five Bills' first record. (Right) Marv Goldberg has pointed out there was a second review of the same record in The Billboard dated 3/21/53. The second review of the flip side is considerably more favorable.

Above: Clippings from The Billboard dated (Left) 2/7/53 and (Right) 2/21/53 related to Decca's re-startup of the Brunswick label.

(From The Billboard dated 3/6/54)

Above: The Five Bills were related to The Kalvin Brothers and Four Brothers And A Cousin. The Kalvin Brothers had one record in 1952, the beautifully sung "Somewhere In Korea" on Royal Roost. Four Brothers And A Cousin had two records, both on Jaguar, both in 1954. Were four of the members actually brothers? Was their last name actually Kalvin? Someone named Dave Williams seems to be involved with all the groups. All six original songs on Brunswick and Jaguar show Dave or David Williams as composer. Leroy Kirkland is also shown as co-composer of two of the original songs on Brunswick. Was Kirkland involved with this group? The Kalvin Brothers, billed as "a spiritual group," performed at Alan Freed's Cleveland Arena show on May 17/18, 1952. If anyone has more information about these three groups, please send an e-mail.

Above: Label image of Brunswick 84002 released in February 1953. "Till I Waltz Again With You," released in late 1952 by Teresa Brewer, had become a big hit for her. This is the first of two by The Five Bills on Brunswick (1953).

The Billboard, April 25, 1953: ....Raleigh Music is the pubber of The Five Bills' latest tunes on Brunswick Records. The ditties are "Waiting, Wanting" and "'Til Dawn And Tomorrow."
(NOTE: Label shows title as "Till Dawn And Tomorrow." Their sides on Brunswick seem to emphasize "waiting," especially for "tomorrow.")
