SPOTLIGHT ON DUETS - PART THREE
"I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"/"Everyone Should Be In Love"
by The Palmers
on Tone-e NA-502
released in 1950
Above: This record by The Palmers was rated "satisfactory" in the 6-17-50 edition of The Billboard magazine. Regardless of the "blowing bubbles" connection, this is almost certainly not Clarence Palmer of The Palmer Brothers, Al Sears And The Sparrows, and The Jive Bombers.
Above: The label gives little information about The Palmers, except they were husband and wife. Research could not identify any other record by this duet. The matrix numbers are a mystery. "GT" is for George Tasker, the owner of this small Chicago independent label. But "41545" and "62717" (on the flip) are puzzling.Other artists to release records of "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" in 1950 are Gordon Jenkins-Artie Shaw (Decca), Eddie Howard Orchestra (Mercury), Mr. Goon Bones-B. Lantz-H. Fisher (Mercury), and Shep Fields (M-G-M).
George Tasker was owner of North American Recording Company and the related Tone-e label. He had previously been A&R chief for Universal Records (above left - 1/17/48). Tone-e must have been very small... a loss of $19.56 rated a column about it (above right - 9/2/50). Tasker later operated Archer Records in Chicago in 1953.Excerpts from The Billboard:
(8/6/49) ....George Tasker, formerly with Universal Records and Universal Recording Studios, is starting his own North American Recording Studios....(11/12/49) ....George Tasker is releasing his first disking on North American label November 10....
(5/27/50) ....The Palmers, cocktail duo managed by Jack Lau, have inked with Tone-e, the new label started by George Tasker....
