The Lucky Millinder Orchestra was formed in 1940 and became one of the most rhythmically exciting bands on the swing circuit. He gradually shifted away from swing and more toward early rhythm & blues as the 1940's progressed. Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Wynonie Harris, Paul Breckenridge, and Annisteen Allen were all featured vocalists with his band.
