Above: The Caldwells consisted of Alex Caldwell (lead baritone), Helen Stewart (lead), Oleatha Granger (tenor), and John Dennis (bass/baritone). This was a self-contained singing/instrumental group.

Above Left: Label image of RCA Victor 20-2613 recorded on 11/12/47 and released in December 1947. This is The Caldwells' first of three on RCA Victor (1947-48).

All four sides of these two records were composed by Alex Caldwell. The group had one record other than their RCA Victor and Rainbow releases... their first, on Philadelphia's Algene label (1947).

The Billboard, December 13, 1947: ....Late additions to the RCA Victor talent roster included.... the Caldwells, a negro instrumental and vocal group formerly known as the St. Louis Four.

The Billboard, February 7, 1948: PHILADELPHIA—Joyce agency has grabbed off an exclusive on Mercur's Musical Bar, Pittsburgh, with a parade of Negro musical attractions starting off with Billy Duke's Five Dukes and Roy Branker, current, followed by the Five Blue Dots with Lillian Fitzgerald, Richard Cannon and the Bert Payne Trio, and, for a February 16 opening, the Four Caldwells.

The Billboard, January 22, 1949: Changes in Victor's.... roster include.... Released from the race list were Bill Johnson, Eddie Heywood and the Caldwells.

The Billboard, December 11, 1948: ....Rainbow diskery signed the Caldwells, vocal group which had previously cut wax for Victor. Four sides purchased from the group will be released immediately.
